The Franks in Poros ...
... on April 13th 1204,
the Crusaders managed to conquer Constantinople
with their Fourth Crusade.
The outcome of this
conquest was to share the Byzantine Empire
amongst the crusaders’ leaders according to
the feudal system which existed at that time
in the West. Thus various Latin states were
founded such as the Achaic domination, the
estates of Athens and of the Aegean along
with several other small states.
Virtually
the entire Peloponnese fell into the hands
of the Achaic authority, led by Prince William.
After him, Godefreigo Villardouino was in
control.
Poros
and Trizinia, along with the entire area
of Nafplio and Argos, belonged to the supremacy
of Achaia. But in 1212 the region was ruled
by the Duke of Athens where Otto Delaros,
the son of a nobleman from Burgundy, was proclaimed
the leader.
Throughout
Frankish rule, Poros was practically deserted
and Barberini pirates held their base on the
northern coast.
During the Venetian dominance,
Damalas was the baron of Damalet and at the
time of Pope Inokentios the 3rd, he became
a Latin bishop. The archdiocese was maintained
until the area was occupied by the Turks.
